Last weekend I was taking a stroll around the lake. I needed a little excerise and James needed to be outside. It was a beautiful day. I saw these two little girls on their bikes and they cheerfully asked, "Do you want a flyer"? I said, "What for"? They happily replied, "For babysitting"! I grabbed the hand-drawn flyer that said, "Gentle Care Babysitting" and was giving it a good little once-over. One of the girls peered over into the stroller and she said, "Awe, he is just sooooo cute! How old is he"? I was looking at them amazed and said quickly, "How old are you girls"? They both piped, "We're like twelve"! My next question was, "How much do you charge"!? One of the girls said, "Like a dollar an hour"! I was snickering inside and thought a) first of all do I... nay, would I even trust a 12 year old to watch my precious little baby and b) A dollar an hour? Now I'm really nervous. Do they even know what they are doing?!?
Needless to say I have not called... but I'm curious. Should I call their parents for references? Would anyone else even think about hiring two 12 year olds to watch a 6 month old baby? I mean, I guess it's really not that hard, right? I still can't get over a dollar and hour. That makes me chuckle. What would they do, split the money???

Geez those girls are cheap, give them a call! I'm just totally kidding! That makes me laugh... Gentle Care Babysitting. But I have had a 13 year old watch Olivia, I haven't really entrusted anyone with Owen yet. But the girls in my ward are charging 4 or 5 dollars an hour? Is it me or have prices gone up.... I really never baby sat growing up.
I'd haggle with them a little bit. Maybe you could get them to fold laundry for an extra quarter per/hour and 50 cents for a load dishes.
Some girls who are twelve have younger siblings are ready set go, other 12 year olds have hardly any siblings and have no clue what they are doing. Hmmm, maybe in a year when James is over 1 and they're in their teens!
I wish I saw them with you - they sounded pretty funny when you called me about it. :)
