Your Concern

I went to see the Orthopedic Surgeon last week for my ankle. Michael likes to call them cankles. The funny thing is, I probably have the skinniest ankles known to man. At least I think so.

So anyway, I stopped running 3 or 4 weeks ago because of this intense sharp shooting pain in my ankle where my achilles tendon is. I heard my ankles snap, and I was sure I was done for. But good news folks. My tendons are fine, ligaments seem fine. "Your ankle is very stable," is what the Dr. said. Apparently I have a longer than normal ankle bone ... okay so I don't talk bone dr. jargon because it was a really long 3 worded word and my pregnant brain couldn't seem to remember it.

Anyway, this longer than normal ankle bone has probably been chipping off and causing irritation and inflammation to the area around it. The good news is, since I'm not running anymore it should heal on its own and I can still walk on it and stuff. The bad news is, it now hurts some days when I'm absolutely doing nothing. Like laying down.

The not so great news is, if I can hang out until the end of the pregnancy, I'll probably have to get cortisone shots but it may only be a temporary fix. If that doesn't work, they will have to do surgery to remove the bone and that really sux. Because for one, that means even if I am able to wait to get the cortisone at the very end, it means no running for a while. And even then, surgery will mean no running for a long while.

But for now I'm crossing my fingers and just hoping it goes away. Hoping.

P.s. I never thought I would laugh at my xrays. It was funny to see my bones hanging up on the wall. Just two little sticks. Who knew I would get such a kick out of it?

Did I miss the "pregnant post"? Congratulations! And sorry to hear about the ankle. Sucks to be in pain and not have any control over it. Here's to "hoping."

Hey, congrats! We were suspecting, but didn't know for sure. Sorry about the ankle. Hopefully things will just get better on their own. :)
