Okay, okay. It's been only a week. Between both Michael and I, we have officially blown our budget of $100 for the month. Like I said, it was unrealistic to begin with. Eating out included Del Taco for lunch last week ($3) and a trip to the cafe' today for ranch ($0.54) and a trip to sonic tonight for FHE ($4). The biggest culprits: tri tip from Costco that Michael sneaked into the cart ($16) and tang ($7) and cream of tarter, tartar? ($7). So there was about 1/3 of the budget right there. I did sweep the sales & scored big time on fruits and veggies. Everything was on sale at Safeway. Good 'ol trusty Safeway. . . Safeway. . . my precious....
Other expenses: Michael bought a ton of juice at Walmart and a cheeseitz. Total, I'm guessing we are pushing $130.
Groceries should last all this week though. I was able to use a can of black beans Michael accidentally opened up with some left over cilantro. It's a black bean and corn salsa. I think it's pretty tasty.
And if you were curious what our dinners were like last week we had... I don't remember, really. Nothing really gross. Tonight was a hamburger soup --- actually it's really good; hamburger, spices, tomatoes, kidney beans, macaroni, rice, and topped with cheese. So easy to make too. Yesterday was lasagna, day before was grilled, marinated tri-tip, ranch potatoes and a chef salad.
This week I promise you a list of my scanned grocery reciepts and meals for every week. I just know you are so excited. Tomorrow: we feast on the remaining tri-tip and Michael dug out some other frozen meats in the freezer, including filet mignon!! Tomorrow, we eat like KINGS! (Because I also splurged on asparagus --- Michael's request... of course).

Oh, I miss Safeway. I, unfortunately am now buying most of our food at Walmart :( It is the only place that carries meat more than 85% lean! can you believe that? That is why there is a problem with obesity out here!
I desperately miss Safeway produce!
I am very excited to hear about these recipes :)
In fact, you should also post that salsa one and the other ones you talked about as well :) Do you think you could email me the recipe for the sauce you put on the chicken pitas?thanks!
I thought the challenge was for YOU to spend $100 on groceries. He can't go shopping and sabotage the challenge! (Maybe I didn't understand the challenge...)
But I am interested to see what's for dinner at the Wests.
We're pretty good at budgeting but grocery shopping is one aspect I feel is out of control. When you figure out a good system, that doesn't include coupons, let me know.
