And the Basics

After chastizing everyone on their everyday make-up, I've decided to practice what I preach. Remember our make-up night segment where I said that I normally don't wear make-up to work? Well all that changed.

I think it was more of a challenge. To see if I could wear make-up every day and how long it takes me.

I'm proud to say that it only takes 5 minutes and this is what I MUST wear (applied in order):

Foundation - liquid. chanel. applied w/wedge sponge.

Concealer - liquid. l'oreal. applied by applicator brush. dotted. blend w/middle fingers upwards to the eyelid, outwards towards the ears, downwards towards the cheekbones.

Powder - compressed powder. chanel. applied w/powder brush. all over. especially over concealer to set.

Bronzer - compressed powder. chanel. applied w/powder brush. sweep over temples, nose, jaw, chin, cheeks. Add more, lots more to cheeks (I do this instead of blush - it's quick, it's easy and almost always fool-proof).

Eye shadow - powder, liquid, or creme (today was Clinique in a light green). one color. no shading. applied with largest shadow brush or applicator. just a few sweeps across the lid and slightly above to see color.

Eye lash curler - get a good curler. spend the extra cash. you will be thankful. i can't remember the brand i have, but it wasn't one of the cheapy ones. crimp, crimp, crimp. each slide, crimping from the base of the eye lash to the tip. remember to replace the rubber part when it starts feeling loose and not curling as much. or if it gets crudded up, replace it! also clean, clean, clean. you don't want to be wearing last months make-up.

Mascara - whatever one is handy in my make-up bag. whether it be samples or my fav chanel brand. I have a few techniques. One is to sweep sideways from base of lash towards ear. Easy does it on the bottom lashes. This one is a cutesy flirty look. When I want more pop, I curl, curl, curl, and then curl some more and go heavier and more separated on top and modest on bottom.

Lipgloss/stick - mac. chanel.depends on how thirsty i am in the morning/how much hair is in my face. The stick if I know I'm going to guzzle a bunch of water. Gloss if I don't mind the stickiness at first (it wears off a little and thins out after it warms up to your body temp, but it sure does get pretty gross around the water bottle).

There you have it. It's simple, it's fast, and you'll still look put together.

If your not into bronzing, use blush. I'm terrible at making it look even especially at 5:30 in the morning. So bronzing for me is a better option in low light. You can't mess it up.

Add eyeliner if you need or have time. I don't mess with it since I don't have a lot of time. It usually takes a steady hand and I always mess it up.

Any questions?

Awesome. Actually since that night, I've been trying to make myself up daily and found that (even with virtually no experience) it isn't that hard to do your basic routine. You did a great job teaching that night, because your routine is exactly what I've been doing. And, I'm glad to know someone else in the world has been bothering with make-up on a daily basis. I was beginning to feel like a princess doing mine every day. Joel told me I was too "done-up" to go to Home Depot with him. Nice.

You know best, but I am all about natural beauty for everyday. (well, almost, a little is ok)
Then when you go on a date with your hubby and actually put a full face of make-up on, he says "wow!" :)

Oh, I am so glad that you gave us a refresher course in makeup. BTW, what is bronzing? Is it something to highlight your features? I definitely need more lessons from you Bianca.
