This morning Lisa (Mike's sister) and I woke up early to hike Camelback. Let me tell you, that is a really good hike. Check out these pix and you tell me you're not amazed, bewildered, befuddled, etc. She's my hero and I hope to be able to do this one day
(soon):

This is the Deuter pack I've been wanting for awhile and was excited to get it for our little trip (and hopefully many, many more to come). I can't say enough good things about it. Comfortable for both parties.

On the way up. Look at that mountain goat.

Great view about half way up. Oh don't discredit Lisa. Her legs look spindly, but they are as strong as an ox! (unlike mine that look like an ox but have the strenth of twig)
Not to mention one poopy diaper change. Look at that face. Happy as a clam. He loves the outdoors already. Little James Robert.

We both made it to the top. Couldn't have done it without Lisa though. She is my hero. Up AND down with James and about 8lbs of water. I KNOW. Amazing! Oh yeah, we picked up the little stray on the way - he was a cute kid. He was too fast for his dad. We made sure he was hydrated.
Luckily enough, I was paranoid about bringing lots and lots of water, for me, Lisa, and James. So I filled up the hydration pack with ice and water, brought two bottles - one milk, one water for James, and 3 half liter bottles for the trip. In addition, I made sure there was water in a cooler in the car just in case.
The trip took 3 hours. Down was a little challenging with James in the pack but Lisa pulled through. Her legs were shaking. She only slipped once and scraped her palm but it wasn't too bad. The pack got it's first battle wound. I'm sad she's leaving this weekend. I always have lots of fun/adventures with her.
I wonder if James is the youngest person to ever be at the summit of Camelback??

Nice views! Is that different than the main trail up Camelback on the north side? - that's the only one we've been on there. How'd you get your sister-in-law to carry James the whole time? Sounds like a good deal :) (Paul always carries our pack with Taya in it, I don't trust my footing with her on my back).
... Did you use all that water? We probably need to bring more when we hike.
We hiked the Echo Canyon trail - the only one with a parking lot. I started out w/James but it didn't last very long and Lisa wanted to try hiking it with him. I quickly realized my legs aren't strong enough yet. And yes, we drank all of the water.
nice pack. And it looks like Bianca is wearing the same skin colored T under her tank that Breanne was.
yeah i know. i was wearing too many layers of clothing and had to strip down halfway. . . totally flashing all of metro phoenix.
Nice pack! Wow - I'm embarrassed about the one we use for Ben now and it's super-nice - but nothing in comparison.
I used to hike Squaw Peak with Ben and I agree that the way down is SO much harder. It would take me almost double the time to get down as it did to get up. I also thought Ben must be the youngest to get to the top until one day I saw the cutest little family and the dad had on one of those front baby carriers with a kid that was probably 2 days old. Maybe 2 weeks. Anyway, it was crazy. So now, I believe you have to try to hike the day you give birth to claim "youngest."
That's awesome! I'm sad I never did that while I was there.

Great job! I love hiking the west side of camelback. Never done it with a pack on my back though.
Looks like fun!
