Sweet Deals

I actually sat down this week and went thru the grocery ads. I decided to only write down the really good deals I've found for the stuff we normally eat - otherwise I'm spending extra money, right?

Safeway

Nectarines - 88 cents/lb
Corn - 3/99 cents (Bashas is actually 4/$1 but I never go there b/c I have to wait forever in line)
Onions - $1/each
Cherios - $1.49/box
Jennie-O Ground Turkey - Buy One get one Free
Hillshire Farm Sausage - 3/$5
Starkist Albacore Tuna - $1/each
Lucerne Yogurt - 10/$5
Dole - 2/$5
Milk - 2/$5.78

Frys

Chicken breast - Foster Farms - 88 cents/lb
Dole Salad - $1/bag
Kroger Sour Cream - 97 cents
Hunts Ketchup - 99 cents
Frenchs Mustard - 99 cents
Kroger Cream Cheese - 99 cents
Watermelon - 1.99/each

Jana just informed me that blueberries are actually a good deal at Costco. Too bad we are going out of town this weekend. All that work for nothing. Usually at the end of the ad period the pickings are slim.

That's cute that you typed all that stuff out.

I've been doing this too, but then I right it all down, have the adds with me and price match it all at Walmart - one stop shop! (I kind of avoided Walmart before this - not totally anti, but would go only when I really needed to or it was especially convenient, but now I can't not do my grocery shopping here since they'll price match) ... I'm working on analyzing what we have so I know what we need better - so I don't buy too much food or doubles of things on accident, etc. Eat what you have first! (I'm still working on that sometimes) ... and yes, like you said, use the adds only for what you would buy anyhow, i.e. the first time or two that I went, I got LOTS of good deals, but bought stuff I thought I'd use right away, and now it's going toward 3 month+ storage.

Anyhow, have fun in CA! I'm very jealous - wish I could visit home too.

If I didn't hate Walmart so much I'd probably do the same thing.

By the way Jana, your profile picture is just way too cute. Can't you find one where you're all ragged and disheveled?

If I ever looked ragged and disheveled, I would, trust me!
But I always look so good and way too cute, so what's a girl to do?

I finally gave up and subscribed to coupon sense. Now someone emails me the good deals and I log in, click on what I want and it prints out my shopping lists for me :)

Yes, sister savings saves me tons of time. Let someone else find the deals for you.

Shannon - I LOVE using the sister savings website! (I was getting the emails before the site came out)

Everyone else - check out http://www.sistersavings.net/ - there's an RS pres in QC who types up all the sales for you in all the grocery stores. Now you can do the responsible thing and trash, er, recycle all those lovely expensive grocery ads you get in the mail each week.

dang- 2 gallons of milk for $5.78! 2 for 7 is what we get in Maryland. Canada's prices are way more and milk comes in plastic bags (picture freezer size ziplocks). Apparently folks from Ontario like to pour milk from a pitcher... weird!

Sweet - I'm all about saving time. I'll have to check it out.
Adam - that is really weird!
