I haven't been able to think of anything to blog about in the last week. To be honest, I've been totally overwhelmed with work and James and every house chore in between. I tell people that I'm so exhausted, I'm just "zah-sted." Mike hasn't been feeling too hot either and so we've been sleeping as much as we can. We've taken naps
during the day. Unheard of for either of us. It's just something we a) don't like to do and b) can't really do.
Poor little James is teething again as well. I feel so bad for that kid. He sticks his little fingers in his mouth and cries. Breaks my heart.
But anyway, to keep this short and sweet I've been working on nursing covers for the last couple of weeks. Here's the last one I finished:
I was searching Joanne's and Sally's for some cool, funky, colorful fabric and was disappointed that Joanne's is turning into more of a craft store. But I was able to find this remnant and paired it with the red to make it long enough. I thought the rick rack was a nice touch to keep with that 60's/70's feel. Later I added big, red, shiny buttons at the top where the neck straps are but was too lazy to take another picture.
The lime green you see is a hidden pocket inside the cover for diapers, burp cloth, wipes, etc. The white terry cloth is for emergency spit-ups or for leaks (I hate it when James pulls away, I always get the geyser effect).
I'm obessed with making these right now, I don't know why. It really has taken the place of blogging. I spend way too much time looking for fabric in stores and online. I've got a million different ideas to make modern ones, paisley ones, funky ones, black and white ones, you get the idea.
Actually I'm working on a cute black and pink polka dot one. Hopefully it'll be done today. I'm debating if I should do house chores or sew. If I sew then I won't have a mess lingering for days on end and it'll be done all at once. If I do chores then I'll probably not get to finish it today.... hmm, what to do what to do.
.... Well....
Gonna go sew.....

So what are you going to do with them? Are you starting your own business? Are you using a different one every time you nurse? Are you trying to outdo everybody else's shower gifts?
;) ... They look great. (Did you end up using Contemporarycloth.com or Fabricshack.com at all?)
Strategy #1: Blow everyone away at the Banda's baby blessing luncheon when Erin opens the gift. Check.
Those are really cool. Obviously, I don't yet know the value of them--but one day I will :)
How cool that you are obsessed with something so neat and useful. I may actually try one of those for Baby #2. Of course, I'll have to buy mine - you let me know if you go into business for yourself :)
How cool! Love that you are so talented! I will be sure to ask you for one sometime down the road whenever baby #2 comes! I love those things!!
How much do you charge? I would totally buy one from you- those would be so nice to have!!
Bianca that is so cute! I've been wanting to make some as well, so I'll have to come see how you're making yours for ideas if you don't mind. :) I wanted to make one before the baby came but with us moving I just didn't have time to. So after Randy was born I just ended up using a gift card to buy one for $20 (on sale - reg price is $30, yuck!!) at Target. However I want to make them for family and friends because I think $20 or $30 is way too much for these! (if I'm buying them, heh heh!)
But you can see why they are sold for $35+ because it wouldn't be worth it to make them, if you're only gettting paid $5 an hour. It wouldn't be profitable or worth your time. Unless you just do it out of pure enjoyment or for gifts.
True Dat Jana - I would have to sell them for at least $35 bucks to make it worth my while, but I'd rather just make them as gifts b/c it only costs me $20 or less depending on the fabric and I can put lots of different notions here and there.
So for those of you that get them feel special that you have an "exclusive" nursing cover made by yours truly. Make everyone jealous that yours is one-of-a-kind!
