The Scorpion King

Last night was pretty rough with James, and I probably don't need to explain the word rough since I know you all know what that means. Well I was finally able to get him to bed (at first I couldn't figure out what was wrong a) was he hungry? he hates baby food and typically only eats goldfish now. b) was he thirsty? he gets cranky when he doesn't drink enough water. c) is he teething? he's got the two teeth, maybe there might be more coming in. d) isn't he tired? he's got to be since it was after 9pm and he didn't get a good nap that afternoon.)
So after we down through the list he finally was able to fall asleep. After cramming golfish, bananas, tylenol, teething medicine, and water down his throat I guess one of them worked. Well this morning was pretty much the same as last night. So after playing with him in the family room I decided to walk up and down the hall with him to see if he would go back to sleep. All the while I kept thinking in the back of my mind, "i wonder what bug i'm going to find this morning. 4am is usually the time the creepy crawlers come out."

This I knew all too well since i used to get up for work about that time.

So as we walked towards the bedroom I looked in the living room (trying to find a bug in my subconscience) and there it was. Sitting in the dark. A big scorpion. Thump-thump. My heart started beating fast. Then it moved! I quickly tugged on Mike and said, "wake-up! there's a scorpion in the living room!" He was half a sleep and said something like yeah, right. Then got really concerned and rushed out there to kill it...... with MY sandal.

GOSH.

Now we are both concerned. This is the first scorpion that we've ever seen. But what's more concerning is that James' jumper is in the living room and a lot of the time we just leave him in it in the wee hours of the morning and let him jump away (usually to sleep).

Mike's been pretty adament now about sealing up the doors, which should have been a big priority in the first place.

I hope we don't see anymore. We just got some pest control people to start spraying the house. I wonder if that has anything to do with anything. Uhm, Marie, I think your scorpion had babies and showed up at our house.

If it's any consolation the bigger the scorpion the better, the small ones are the ones to be VERY careful with.

Yuck... I HATE bugs/spiders/scorpions, etc. I always have to check the ceiling, walls, shower, floor, and anywhere else I can think of when I walk around in this place because spiders are abundant. I can't even handle them - I would freak out if there was a scorpion.

Ok this is like the 4th scorpion story I've heard in the past week. And Jana said you guys found a tarantula (sp?)... I'm sure glad I don't live in Mesa anymore, I don't think we have those critters up here in Phoenix!!!
